Society For Rational Development (SFORD) is inclined towards the betterment of the society as a whole. Animals are indispensable part of the society. The cow, being the sacred being in India, is respected equivalent to a mother. Care for cows is meant for awareness, education and action regarding cow protection.
Gaushalas or Goshalas are protective shelters for cows in India. Goshalas focus on treating cows well out of their religious significance in Hinduism and consequent cultural sensitivity towards their welfare.
Gaushala, a Sanskrit word (“Gau” means cow and “Shala” means a shelter place: Gau + Shala = shelter for cows), means the abode or sanctuary for cows, calves and oxen. Apart from providing sanctuary, the Gaushala also rescues the animals destined for illegal slaughter.
The SFORD is running a ‘Gau-Shala’ named ‘SFORD Gau Seva Evam Shodh Sansthan’ with approx 100 cows, bulls and calves. The program is aimed at:
The SFORD Gaushala is situated at village Peshawas in Jodhpur District. The cows in gaushala are mostly non-milking, which have been left by their owners because of their inability to generate revenue out of their milk, SFORD accepts these cows with open hands with a purpose to introduce and instill the importance of this being amongst the rural kids of SFORD Academy. To make them aware that apart from milk, a cow can generate revenue in multiple ways. The awareness amongst kids is also spread through reading materials and competition. ‘Gau-Vigyan Anusandhan Evam Samanya Gyan Pareeksha’ is an exam taken for the same cause. The kids of SFORD Academy take that exam and has achieved district level position as well.
Along with providing high quality fodder, regular visit of veterinary doctor is organized in the gaushala. As per requirement, the castration camps are also organized.
